Profit from the tournament is split between Cosburn and Balmy based on the proportion of sponsorship revenue each club brings in.
If an equal number of teams from Balmy and Cosburn enter the tournament, the draw can be set up as a challenge match between the two clubs; use the “12-team Combo Fours Draw Cosburn vs. Balmy” template. Otherwise, use the “12-team Combo Fours Draw” template.
Freda Trattner Memorial Tournament Women’s Pairs
Because the games are ten ends, this tournament starts at 10 am (not the usual 9:30 am for most other tournaments).
Maximum score per game: 15 points. Any points scored over 15 count as plus points to be used as tiebreak to determine final standings.
There is usually only one game before lunch.
Novice Open Trebles sponsored by MVP Sports
Maximum score per game: 15 points. Any points scored over 15 count as plus points to be used as tiebreak to determine final standings.
The sponsor provides a set of new bowls. All novice players are eligible to win the bowls in a random draw. The Sponsorship and Development chair will provide a letter for the winner with instructions for claiming the prize. (Essentially, the chair just introduces the winner to MVP Sports owner Dan Milligan.)
The skills competition
The three tournament games are followed by a skills competition.
All players compete in both skills tests, a test of draw delivery and a test of run delivery. Points are awarded for each successful attempt, based on each player’s position on the team: skips get one point, vices get two, and leads get three. Total points won in the skills competition are added to the tournament game points, marked on special tournament scoring cards (see “Novice Open Trebles Scoring Cards”).
A lead with good skills can change the tournament standings.
Skills competition A: draw
- Bowls will be delivered from a mat two metres from the ditch.
- Bowlers will try to draw onto a screen (a large mat) set two metres from the ditch at the other end.
- Bowlers will roll three bowls, using either hand; no practice throws allowed.
- Bowl must be either on or over the screen to be considered successful.
- Each successful draw will score:
- Skips: one point
- Vices: two points
- Leads: three points
- The scorer determines whether or not a draw is successful; the scorer’s decision is final.
Skills competition B: run
- Bowl will be delivered from a mat set at the hog line.
- Jack will be set two metres from the ditch at the other end.
- Bowlers must run the jack into the ditch to be successful. Hitting the jack, but not taking it into the ditch, will not count. Hitting a jack out of bounds or jumping it over the ditch and onto the bank will not count.
- Bowlers will roll three bowls, using either hand; no practice throws allowed.
- Each successful run will score:
- Skips: one point
- Vices: two points
- Leads: three points
- The scorer determines whether or not a run is successful; the scorer’s decision is final.
