At Cosburn Park Lawn Bowling Club, we’re proud not only of our skillful bowling but also of the respectful and welcoming atmosphere we foster on the green. Whether you’re brand new to the sport or a longtime player, a quick etiquette refresher ensures everyone enjoys their time on the rink.

🏅 Good Sportsmanship

  • Start and end with a handshake. A friendly gesture sets the tone for a great game.

  • Compliment good shots—whether they come from your teammate or an opponent.

  • Acknowledge lucky breaks with a smile, and avoid thanking opponents when fortune swings your way.

  • Encourage quietly. Keep chatter and distractions low when someone is on the mat.

  • Accept the random draw gracefully. You might not always land on your favourite rink or team, but it’s all part of club play—and building a supportive, friendly community.

🌱 Protecting the Green

  • Always wear flat-soled footwear to avoid damaging the playing surface.

  • Avoid bouncing your bowls. A smooth, low delivery helps preserve the green.

  • Stay within the boundaries of your rink—don’t stray into neighbouring games.

🧍‍♀️ Smart Positioning on the Rink

  • Stand behind the mat or the head when it’s not your turn.

  • After your bowl has come to rest, step back to give your opponent clear possession of the rink.

  • Remain still and unobtrusive during deliveries—avoid blocking rink markers or boundary pegs.

🤝 Team Play & Positive Attitude

  • Be supportive—especially if you’re an experienced player. We all have off days.

  • Whether you win or lose, stay gracious. The true goal is to play well and enjoy the game.

  • And remember: our games wouldn’t happen without our amazing volunteers. Please take a moment to thank the drawmasters, convenors, and helpers who keep everything running smoothly. A kind word means a lot!

Let’s all do our part to keep Cosburn Park a friendly, respectful, and welcoming place to bowl.

See you on the greens!
