Participating in lawn bowling tournaments can be an exciting and rewarding experience. As a member of Cosburn Park Lawn Bowling Club, you have the opportunity to compete in Open Tournaments at clubs across Ontario. This blog post will help you get tournament-ready and make the most of your experience.

Membership at Cosburn Park includes automatic membership in the Ontario Lawn Bowling Association (OLBA) β€” which means:

  • You can enter Open Tournaments at any lawn bowling club across Ontario.

  • You are part of a broader community of bowlers with access to events, competitions, and learning opportunities.


πŸ“‹ Tournament Formats

While tournament formats vary, most follow a similar structure to those hosted at our club:

  • Number of Games: 3 games

  • Ends per Game: 12 ends

  • Start Time: 9:30 AM

  • End Time: Around 4:00 PM

  • Breaks: Short break after Game 1, lunch after Game 2


πŸ§‘β€πŸ€β€πŸ§‘ Tournament Types

Tournaments can be:

  • Men’s (M)

  • Women’s (W)

  • Mixed (Mx) – Any gender combination

  • Open (O) – Open to all genders

Some events are designated for Novice bowlers (less than 5 years of experience) and may have varying team sizes:

  • Pairs (P) – 2 players

  • Triples (T) – 3 players

  • Fours (F) – 4 players (occasionally)

Most tournaments require one entry per team, except:

  • MVP Sports Novice Open Triples

  • Delmanor Masters 75+ Open Trebles

For these events, individual entries are accepted. Teams are assembled by the drawmaster to ensure balance.

In-Club Trebles Tournament

  • You enter as an individual.

  • Teams are formed by the Tournament Chair and organizing committee.

  • Format: 3 games of 10 ends each.

πŸ’‘ The Novice Open Trebles is ideal for new bowlers β€” with cash prizes and a chance to win a $500 gift certificate towards your own set of bowls!


πŸ’° Cost & Equipment

  • Entry Fee: Approximately $20 per bowler

  • Prizes: Cash prizes for top 5–6 teams

  • Equipment: No bowls? No problem! You can borrow a set from Cosburn Park.

  • Transportation: Need a ride? Ask about carpooling options, especially if you rely on the TTC.
